When is the program launching?
The start of the project is planned from the second week of October 2023.
What are the requirements to apply for the program?
Be a graduate of YSMU and/or other medical university.

Requirements (when applying either through YSMU or NIH)

  • Residency admission exam.
  1. YSMU: Residency admission exam is required for applicants who apply through YSMU, not only for graduates of YSMU
  2. NIH: Residency admission exam is required for all applicants applying through NIH
  • Diploma and application/s
  • Graduation grades/credits
  • Passport and social security card/SSC or identification card: 2 /both/ sides,
  • Male applicants also military service record (all pages)
  • 3 photos of 3x4 size
  • CV
  • Personal statement
  • 3 recommendation letters
What is the usual schedule of a pediatric resident? What is a typical day like?
Our residents will have a busy day, in addition to full clinical work they'll have didactic classes, various conferences, discussions, mandatory morning reports, duties and much more.
How many hours per week is the resident expected to work?
The resident's weekly schedule will be full for 60 hours, with 40 hours for clinical and 20 hours for didactic training.
Is it possible to know beforehand the rotations we will have during the residency?
The program has pre-scheduled all rotations with their respective clinics for each year of residency. All residents will receive the schedule upon admission and will be able to get a complete picture of the program.
What didactic teaching methods will be used in the program?
Some of the didactic teaching methods used in the program are morning reports, grand rounds, afternoon conferences, case presentations, key topic presentations, Journal Clubs, simulation-based learning, interdisciplinary case conferences, etc.
What are the main clinical bases of the program?
The main clinical bases of the program are:
  • Arabkir Medical Center
  • Muratsan Hospital Complex
  • “Wigmore Hospital For Children” medical center
What educational resources and support will be available to residents?
Residents will have the opportunity to use medical electronic libraries and specialized websites, listen to lectures by international and Armenian experts in the field, in accordance with the evidential requirements of modern medicine.
Will I have the opportunity to learn about different pediatric subspecialties during the program?
Yes, the program includes rotations of narrow pediatric specialties, as well as elective classes.
How much guidance and support will residents receive during the program?
Our goal is to provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to work as independently as possible, while always having the support and guidance of the teaching staff.
How is resident performance evaluated, and what feedback mechanisms will you be using?
The resident’s performance will be assessed using special evaluation systems, and a skills test after each rotation, based on the best practices of the leading educational systems in the world.
How can residents advance their careers once they graduate from the program?
In the RA, the shortage of pediatricians is increasing every year, so we urgently need more pediatricians. The program is designed to assign the resident to work for three years according to the decision of the RA Ministry of Health after completion. Moreover, the resident will have other promising professional opportunities once they become a skilled specialist, considering the high demand for young qualified pediatricians from today’s leading, large medical institutions.
How will the program ensure residents' work/life balance?
The program is resident-centered, offering a competitive stipend that enables the resident to concentrate on gaining professional skills without having to worry about covering the residency cost.
What is the structure and duration of the Pediatric Residency program of Armenia?
The program has

The duration of the program is 3 years.
How many residents will the program have this year?
Since the residency will operate within the framework of the targeted program of the state, we will have as many places as the state will allocate, approximately 8-10
What does it mean for a program to be aligned with the MOH Targeted Residency Program?
The residency program conforms to the state's targeted residency program and it functions according to the contract between the resident and the Ministry of Health, with the resident's commitment to work for the state for 3 years after completion.
How many years of commitment do I have with the Government after completing the program? Can I pay a charge and be freed from that responsibility?
3 years.

Yes, you can, at the end, following the established procedure, make a payment and be exempt from the duty.
What is the difference between NIH and YSMU admission processes in this program?
The only difference is different exam conditions for admission to the residency program for NIH and YSMU.
YSMU graduates do not take an exam when applying through YSMU, but graduates from other medical universities take a test exam.
When applying through NIH, regardless of which medical university they graduated from, students take a residency entrance exam.
Is there any difference in the schedule when applying through YSMU or NIH?
No, there is no difference.
Will the clinics be the same for all residents?
Yes.

The advantage and innovation of the program is that all residents will be in the same clinical bases, both public and private, in Yerevan and in the regions.
Will all residents, regardless of their academic institution, have the same rotations?
Yes.
